ISDN

ISDN uses digital signals, as opposed to analogue, that are ideal for carrying data and provides excellent quality speech lines.

Using ISDN you can

  • reduce ongoing costs by rationalising lines: supporting faxes, telephones and backup internet connectivity through your ISDN lines you reduce the number of lines into your building

  • Direct Dial In numbers (MSN for single ISDN2e line): you can take advantage of DDI from BT – this allows you to assign separate numbers to people, functions or groups without having a separate line enabling your customers to talk to an individual or group straight away.

  • Keep existing numbers: subject to BT, you may be able to transfer existing numbers onto your ISDN, even from another carrier

  • See the number of person calling: BT support CLI, call line identity, for incoming calls – this enables you to see the number of the person calling

    ISDN2e

ISDN2e is ideal for small/medium businesses needing two to eight lines to handle communications (whether voice, fax, internet connectivity or email). Each ISDN2e provides two channels, each operating at 64Kbps speed. For internet connectivity you can bond the channels together to achieve 128Kbps speed or higher*. ISDN2e is presented on copper and existing analogue or highway lines can be converted to ISDN2e subject to support at your exchange.

    ISDN30e

ISDN30e is ideal for medium to large businesses. It provides eight or more channels of ISDN, each working at 64Kbps speed. It is great for call centres, where clear lines and fast dialling are vital. Once installed you can easily increase the number of channels.

ISDN is provided by your local network provider [usually BT] or cabler company [i.e. NTL, Telewest]. ISDN30e can be presented on copper or fibre, fibre being the preferred method of presentation.

*Requires an ISP to support channel bonding
