ADSL
What is ADSL?
ADSL is not a replacement for ISDN2e or PSTN telephone lines. ADSL is a high-speed connection to the Internet, or, if multiple offices have an ADSL connection configured correctly, then data and voice traffic can be routed over the ADSL link between them. You will still need your traditional lines for people to call you and you to call elsewhere.
Why ADSL?
Why do you need ADSL? Faster download speeds: Most companies want the fastest connection possible, but many don't actually use it to anywhere near its capacity. This results in higher monthly fees for a low use line.
Your organisation needs ADSL if you regularly download large files or a large number of you are browsing the internet simultaneously.
Using ADSL?
ADSL is provided by BT, but for ease of ongoing support, allocation of real IP addresses it is better to use an ADSL provider: CTi liase with a number of providers to ensure quality of provision and continuity of service.
Using ADSL you need to have an ADSL router (may not be the same as an ISDN router) and Firewall
ADSL is provided on an analogue phone line that could also be used as a fax or PDQ line; ADSL is not suitable for Redcare.
ADSL is a technology in its infancy thus experiences teething problems. If internet connectivity is important to you, you should have a network-grade backup solution to cover your building when your ADSL has problems. Our telephone solutions are ideal for this.
